A Pilot Study: Identifying the Effectiveness of The Listening Program® on Children with Sensory Integration Dysfunction and Auditory Processing Concerns

 
 
 

The pilot study was developed to determine the effectiveness of The Listening Program (TLP) on children with sensory processing disorder (SPD) and auditory processing concerns. A three (3)- group pre-test, post-test design with six children, (of which four are currently receiving therapy services (Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT) and, Speech/ Language Therapy (SLP)); one who received services in the past (OT and SLP); and one who never received therapy services.

Participants were six children of different ages ranging from 3 years and 11 months to 8 years and 7 months, all presenting with SPD and auditory processing concerns.

Diagnoses ranging from ADD/ADHD, Autism, central processing dysfunction, developmental delay, and brain injury.

Participants were given OT, SLP, Sensory Profile, Listening and Pragmatic checklist and Audiometric testing to determine the effectiveness of the TLP program.
 
 
 
Biography:
 

John Esteves, OTR/L, TLP–BCP
Assistant Director of Advanced Pediatric Systems and Owner/Director of Independence Tomorrow, Inc. (Aquatic Fitness Swim Camp).

John is an occupational therapist with over six years of pediatric experience specializing in sensory integration, sensory-motor processing, ADL training, and visual/vestibular training. He is also a provider of early intervention, Interactive Metronome, TLP, and he is Tomatis trained.

He is the assistant director of a private out-patient pediatric clinic that provides occupational, physical, and speech-language therapy specializing in sensory integration and providing services including, but not limited to, Tomatis, TLP, IM, Samonas, Therapeutic Listening, Feeding, NDT, ADL training, FM/ GM intervention, handwriting clinics and PNF. APS has two locations in south Florida which serves children in home, clinic and school settings.

John also runs an aquatic fitness swim camp that has been running for over three years and servicing over 25-30 children, working on water safety skills, swimming, SI, strengthening, and social interaction.
