The Listening Program® from a Mother’s Perspective: Two Case Studies

This study is of a near recovered ASD/Hyperlexic five year old using twelve months with iListen® TLP Level One Bone Conduction. After normal development and then regression into Autism around 18 months, my son was diagnosed at two years of age with Autism and Hyperlexia. Since his diagnoses, he has been a patient of Dr. Amy Davis, M.D. (DAN physician) and has had many interventions including biomedical, gluten-free casein-free diet, BioSET, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Developmental Therapy and an in home Applied Behavior Analysis program (ABA). In July 2007, Dr. Davis implemented TLP with amazing results. It has specifically helped in areas of social skills, joint attention, shared experiences, asked questions, emotions, empathy, sensory, gross motor, and auditory processing.

In addition to success with my son, TLP was implemented with my NT (neuro-typical) seven year old daughter with wonderful results. Specifically, the changes documented include improved attention span, academics, artistic, and vocal abilities.

I received my BA in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education in 1996 and Masters in Education in 2000 from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. I taught five years for the Hannibal Public Schools including high school special education, kindergarten, and first grade.

Currently, I am a stay at home mother and have committed the past three years of my life to recovering my son. Although the process has been daunting and is still evolving, I know full recovery is within reach. From the beginning I have been extremely protective of my son’s label, but feel that his story has come full circle. It is my obligation and purpose to share his success with others. Recently, my son was selected to be a participant in Dr. Steve Edelson’s Recovery Project for the Autism Research Institute.

The past three years have been a life changing experience leading me to pursue a new direction with my career path. It is my hope to implement TLP into our local school district, knowing first- hand that it can help a wide range of students. The changes I have seen over the past year with TLP have directly aided in a successful preschool experience for my son. He will enter kindergarten this fall without supports which has been a goal from the beginning.

I reside in Hannibal, Missouri with my husband Stewart and children Madelynn and Miles.
